MTEN: Hofstra Drops Dual Match Opener To Wagner

Box Score Hempstead, NY - Jan Leithner won the only singles match of the day for Hofstra as the Pride dropped their dual match opener to Wagner, 4-1, Friday afternoon at the Hofstra Outdoor Tennis Center. Wagner won the other three completed singles matches and also took the doubles point.

Hofstra fell to 0-1 on the season, while the Seahawks improved to 2-0.

The Seahawks took the doubles point by winning two of the three matches. The teams split at the first two flights before Wagner won the third flight in a tie breaker. Niko Vulinovich and Coco Haener picked up a first flight victory for the Pride to improve to 8-3 on the year.

Leithner posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Dale Sandy at No. 3 singles to even the match at 1 but Wagner won the next three matches, including the match clincher in a three-set affair at No. 6. The singles matches at No. 1 and No. 4 were not completed due to the overall match having been decided.

Hofstra returns to action Saturday morning when it hosts Fairfield at 11 a.m.
