WSOC: Hofstra Edges Northeastern To Become Only Remaining Team Unbeaten In CAA

Brookline, Mass. – The Hofstra Women's Soccer team used a late goal to take a 1-0 win over defending Colonial Athletic Association champion Northeastern on Thursday night at Parsons Field.

The Pride (11-3-2, 7-0 CAA) extended its win streak to eight games and its unbeaten run to 10. Northeastern came into the contest undefeated in conference play and dropped to 3-1-2 in the league and 9-5-2 overall.

After weathering pressure from the Huskies in the waning moments of the first half, Hofstra turned the tables in the second, carrying play for most of the frame and capitalizing on the momentum swing in the 71st minute. Junior Monique Iannella sent in a corner that classmate Jenn Buoncore played deeper into the box. Freshman Lucy Porter settled it along the goal line and snuck it around Northeastern goalkeeper Nathalie Nidetch for her second goal of the season.

Freshman Sabrina Bryan had an opportunity to double the Pride's lead late in the second half, cutting around a defender at the edge of the box and trying to sneak a shot past Nidetch short side, but Nidetch batted it away.

With just two games remaining in the regular season, Hofstra will play its final home game on Sunday, hosting Elon at 12:30 p.m. at Hofstra Soccer Stadium. The Pride will honor its eight seniors in a pregame ceremony.

Notes:
-Iannella has three assists in her past two games after recording two against James Madison.
-Buoncore leads the team with four assists.
-Hofstra is 6-0 when a freshman scores.
-The Pride is also 6-0 on Thursdays.
-The clean sheet was Hofstra's ninth shutout of the season, with the Pride allowing just two goals over its 10-game unbeaten streak.
-With the win, Hofstra clinched a top-two finish, earning a bye into the conference semifinals.
