WSOC: Hofstra Dominates UNC Greensboro at Army West Point Invitational

West Point, N.Y. – Senior Jill Mulholland and junior Kristin Desmond each recorded two goals and an assist as Hofstra women's soccer dominated UNC Greensboro, 5-2, on Sunday morning at the Army West Point Invitational.

Mulholland staked the Pride (4-1-1) an early 1-0 lead, scoring off a pass from Kristin Desmond in the 7th minute.

Desmond then netted a goal of her own just eight minutes later, tucking a pass from senior Kerri Baum into the left side from about 20 yards out to double Hofstra's advantage. Desmond scored a second in the 32nd minute to give the Pride a 3-0 lead after Mulholland took advantage of a muffed goal kick and sent a volley into Desmond.

UNC Greensboro (3-2-1) got on the board just 1:08 later on a strike from Diarra Simmons to cut Hofstra's advantage back to two.

Junior Noriana Radwan's free kick in the 45th minute found the back of the net, giving Hofstra a commanding 4-1 lead at halftime.

The Spartans scored quickly in the second half on a shot from Melanie Spensiero in the 49th minute, but Mulholland's second of the day in the 62nd minute pushed the Pride's advantage to 5-2. Mulholland controlled the ball in the 18-yard box and blasted a shot past UNCG goalkeeper Chloe Buehler.

All three Pride keepers saw time in net, with redshirt-sophomore Ashley Wilson making three saves in the first half. Senior Friederike Mehring took over at the start of the second half, before junior Jenna Borresen came on in the 82nd minute, finishing with a save.

Hofstra will welcome the tournament host, Army West Point, to Hofstra Soccer Stadium at 1 p.m. on Saturday as part of a doubleheader with the Pride men's soccer team.
