Hempstead, N.Y. – Hofstra women's soccer suffered just its second loss of the season Saturday afternoon, falling to Army West Point, 3-1, at Hofstra Soccer Stadium.
The Pride (4-2-1) outshot the Black Knights, 24-7, and held a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks, but only found the back of the net once. Freshman
Maya Watkins netted her first career goal in the 29th, getting a quality finish on a pass from senior
Jill Mulholland. Mulholland now has 15 points on the season, getting on the scoresheet in six of the Pride's seven games. The assist was her third, tying her total from a year ago.
Army West Point (1-6) equalized in the 37th minute on Clare Shea's second goal of the season to leave the score knotted at one at halftime.
The Black Knights went ahead early in the second half, with Madison McGinn putting away a rebound after senior
Friederike Mehring made the first stop. Nicole Bautista then put Army West Point ahead, 3-1, tucking away a shot into the lower left corner.
Mulholland and junior
Noriana Radwan led the Pride with six shots apiece, with four of Radwan's on frame.
Mehring made two saves in the second half, both of the spectacular variety, once again splitting the game with redshirt-sophomore
Ashley Wilson.
The Pride will have a quick turnaround, hosting Fairleigh Dickinson at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
