Charleston, S.C. – College of Charleston scored late in the second half to edge Hofstra Women's Soccer, 1-0, on Friday night at the Soccer Stadium at Patriots Point. With the loss, Hofstra falls to 6-5-1 and 0-3 in Colonial Athletic Association play.
Redshirt-sophomore goalkeeper
Ashley Wilson made a career-high six saves in the first half to keep the game scoreless through the first 45 minutes, including an acrobatic leap to punch the ball over the crossbar midway through the frame.
The Cougars (8-3-1, 1-0-1 CAA) broke through in the 72nd minute, with Raymara Barreto putting away Laura Ortega's corner kick.
Junior
Rhian Cleverly took a free kick from about 25 yards out moments later that the Charleston keeper had to tip over the net. Hofstra kept the pressure up in the waning moments, holding possession in the Cougars' half of the field, but the Pride couldn't find the equalizer.
