WSOC: Hofstra Drops Final Road Game To UNCW

Wilmington, N.C. – Hofstra Women's Soccer and UNCW each scored a penalty kick goal, but the Seahawks tacked on three more to defeat the Pride, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon, as Hofstra wrapped up its road schedule for the season. The Pride dropped to 6-6-1 and 0-4 in Colonial Athletic Association play.

UNCW (7-3-2, 1-1-1 CAA) struck early, taking a 1-0 lead in the second minute on a shot from Kennedy Ulrich. The Seahawks doubled their lead in the 20th minute with a goal from Brittany Cline.

When UNCW committed a foul inside the 18-yard box, Hofstra was awarded a penalty kick, and Kristin Desmond put it away, bringing the Pride within one in the 25th minute.

But the Seahawks answered, pushing their lead back to three less than three minutes later for a 3-1 advantage at halftime.

UNCW then converted a penalty kick of its own in the 63rd minute to seal the game.

The Seahawks held a narrow 13-12 advantage in shots, with senior Jill Mulholland leading the Pride with six shots.

Hofstra will play the remainder of its schedule at home, where the team is 3-1 thus far this season. The Pride hosts Elon at 7 p.m. on Saturday and William & Mary at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
