WSOC: Hofstra and DePaul Play To a Draw At Army West Point Invitational

West Point, N.Y. – Hofstra women's soccer senior Jill Mulholland scored in the 30th minute, but DePaul answered midway through the second half as the Pride and the Blue Demons played to a 1-1 draw Friday night at the Army West Point Invitational.

After turning in a couple of early saves, redshirt-sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Wilson came face to face with DePaul's Abby Reed, who was awarded a penalty kick in the 18th minute, but Wilson was up to the task, making the save to keep the game scoreless.

The Pride (3-1-1) then got on the board first, with senior Jill Mulholland gathering a loose ball in the 18-yard box and firing home. Mulholland, the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week, now has points in four of Hofstra's five games and leads the team with four goals.

The Blue Demons (0-2-2) responded in the 77th minute when Reed served Taylor Schissler a pass that Schissler put away.

Senior goalkeeper Friederike Mehring, who entered the game in the second half, made three straight saves in the final moments of regulation, including tipping a shot from Reed over the crossbar, to keep the game even at one.

Junior Kristin Desmond answered with a chance of her own on frame in the 89th minute, but DePaul keeper Jaimie Leas was there to make the save.

Mehring and Leas exchanged stops in the second overtime before Desmond and classmate Noriana Radwan each had shots go high in the final two minutes.

Wilson and Mehring combined for eight saves.

Hofstra plays its second game of the Army West Point Invitational with an 11:30 a.m. matchup with UNC Greensboro on Sunday.
