WSOC: Pair of Goals From Mulholland Lifts Hofstra Over Boston University

Hempstead, N.Y. – Senior Jill Mulholland scored a pair of second-half goals to lift Hofstra women's soccer to a 2-0 win over Boston University on Thursday night at Hofstra Soccer Stadium, marking the Pride's first Division I win over the Terriers.

Hofstra (2-1-0) had a number of close chances in the first half, including a shot from sophomore midfielder Brianna Doran that BU goalkeeper Hannah Ciolek tipped just inches wide of the net. Later in the first half, Mulholland had a strong strike that hit the crossbar.

The Pride defense held Boston University (0-3-0) to just four shots in the first half, and Hofstra goalkeeper Ashley Wilson was there to stop the two that went on frame.
Mulholland got the Pride on the board quickly in the second half, putting away her first of the night in the 48th minute. Sophomore Jamie Delaney tapped the ball to Mulholland, who shot from about 20 yards out, across the box and into the lower left corner to give Hofstra the lead.

She doubled the advantage in the 67th minute, controlling a pass from sophomore Madeline Anderson and firing a high shot from long range.

But the Terriers put the pressure on in the second half, tripling their shot production from the opening frame. Ann Marie Jawoski sent in a quality cross to Jesse Shreck on the far post, but Shreck's attempt to spoil the clean sheet went just wide. Splitting the game with Wilson, senior goalkeeper Friederike Mehring was called upon to make seven saves in the second half.

Hofstra stays at home for a matchup with Columbia at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
