WTEN: Hofstra Dumps Howard For 10th Victory Of Season

Washington, DC – The Hofstra Women's Tennis team won for the third time in four matches today with a 6-1 win over Howard University at the East Capital Campus.

Hofstra improved to 10-5 on the season with the win, while Howard fell to 8-6 with the loss.

The Pride swept doubles play to take a 1-0 match lead. Disha Yellayi and Giulia Leone got things started with a 6-2 win at third doubles over Nicole Hutchinson and Christina Joynes. Michal Kaplan and Sarah Catherine Herndon followed with a 6-3 win over Umarah Mughnee and Kindha Nasef at second doubles. That win clinched the point before Sarah Bowen and Carmen Pestano completed the sweep with a 6-3 win over Stacey Roheman and Jessica Josiah at the first flight.

Yellayi kept the momentum rolling in Hofstra's favor as she opened singles play with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at the fifth flight over Sajela Harlow. Pestano defeated Nasef 6-1, 6-1 at fourth singles to increase the Pride's lead to 3-0. Howard got on the board with a first flight win by Roheman over Bowen by scores of 7-5, 6-4. Herndon would end any hope of a Howard comeback as she clinched the victory with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Hutchinson at third singles. Leone added to the score with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the sixth flight, while Kaplan downed Josiah in a three-set match 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

Hofstra returns home to host Marist Tuesday at 4 p.m.
