Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra Softball team used strong offensive showings from junior second baseman
Lacey Clark and sophomore catcher
Brittany Allocca to sweep a doubleheader from Drexel in Colonial Athletic Association play on Saturday at Bill Edwards Stadium.
The Pride combined for 25 runs as they captured the first game, 13-3, in six innings and won game two, 12-3, in five innings.
Hofstra improved to 23-18 overall and 7-6 in CAA play with the win, while Drexel fell to 17-28 and 0-13 in league action.
Clark was the star in the first game as she went 4-4 at the plate with seven runs batted in and two runs scored. Clark nearly batted for the cycle as she had two doubles, a triple and a home run to power the Pride to the victory.
In game two, Allocca batted 2-3 with four runs batted in and a run scored to lead the way. She had her ninth home run of the season in the nightcap.
In the first game Hofstra jumped all over Drexel early with seven runs in the first three innings. The first inning saw Clark get the initial big blast of the game with a two-RBI double as Hofstra opened the floodgates with a four-run first inning.
The Pride would end the game with a three-run sixth inning as after a pair of walks, Clark continued her incredible game with a three-run walk-off home run to left field to give Hofstra the 10-run victory.
Drexel got on the board first in the nightcap with a pair of runs in the first inning.
Hofstra immediately answered and sent 14 batters to the plate in the bottom half of the inning as they plated nine runs. Allocca had all her RBI in the first inning as she slammed a home run early in the inning before adding a two-run single later in the first.
After a two-run second inning, one that included a home run from senior centerfielder Caryn Baily, Hofstra was well-positioned to end the contest early as they led 11-2 after two innings of play. Senior leftfielder
Chloe Fitzgerald had a run-scoring single in the fourth to account for the Pride's 12th run of game two.
The game would conclude in the fifth inning as the Dragons were only able to muster a run that inning.
Junior pitcher
Jessica Peslak earned her 16th win of the season with complete game in the first game, while freshman pitcher
Madison Grimm added a complete game in the second game to pick up her sixth victory of the 2016 campaign.
Hofstra returns to action on Sunday when it concludes the series with Drexel. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
