Josh Byrne each added two goals to lead the Hofstra Pride to a 10-4 Colonial Athletic Association victory over the Drexel Dragons at Vidas Field Saturday evening.
Hofstra, which won its second consecutive game and fourth in the last five outings, improved to 8-4 overall and 2-1 in the CAA. The Dragons of Drexel, who dropped their third consecutive, fell to 4-8 on the season and 0-3 in conference play.
Hendrickson extended his points/goals streak to 11 games while posting his second-best goal output of the year, behind a six-goal performance against Fairfield. He now has a career-best 25 goals this season. Llinares' two goals give him 25 on the season as well and 98 for his career. Byrne leads the team with 26 goals in 2016 following his two on Saturday. Brendan Kavanagh added a goal and two assists to extend his team-leading assist streak to five games. Sophomore
Jack Concannon made nine saves, including eight in the first half to post his eighth win of the season.
Four different Drexel players scored goals as Frank Fuscco, Michael Kay, Jeremy Omrod and Nick Valentino dented the twine for the Dragons.
The Pride scored nine of the first 10 goals to build a 9-1 lead after three quarters. Hendrickson opened the scoring just 4:07 into the game off a pass from Kavanagh with the Pride on the man-up. Senior
Brian von Bargen scored his 24th of the year off a pass from Byrne a little over five minutes later for a 2-0 lead after one quarter.
Drexel cut the deficit in half just 48 seconds into the second period as Kay notched his second of the season. That would be the Dragons last goal for the next 32:52 as the Pride would tally seven unanswered goals.
Hendrickson and Llinares scored goals in the second to boost the Pride lead to 4-1 at halftime. Hendrickson and Byrne would add two each in the third and Kavanagh would score his eighth of the year to give Hofstra its eight-goal advantage after 45 minutes.
Fusco and Valentino would score goals 26 seconds apart for Drexel before Llinares would score the Pride's final goal with just under four minutes remaining. Omrod would score the Dragons final goal with 2:05 to play for the final 10-4 score.
Hofstra dominated Drexel in every category, outshooting them, 38-22, in ground balls, 32-20 and in face-offs, 12-5.
Hofstra wraps up its two-game road trip next Saturday, April 23 when the Pride travel to Amherst to face the Minutemen of the University of Massachusetts. Game time at Garber Field is 1 p.m.
