WTEN: Hofstra Picks Up 5-2 Win At Monmouth

West Long Branch, NJ - Hofstra won four singles flights and took the doubles point on its way to a 5-2 victory over Monmouth Friday at the MU Outdoor Tennis Complex.

The Pride improves to 11-6 with the win, while Monmouth slipped to 6-14.

Michal Kaplan started singles play with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Alexandra Graff at No. 2. Grace Wills picked up the Hawks first win of the day with a sixth flight win Salini Jariwala, 6-2, 6-0. Giulia Leone put Hofstra up 2-1 with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Maria Ivanova at the fifth flight. Carmen Pestano defeated Kendal Kauffman, 6-1, 6-3 at fourth singles before Sarah Catherine Herndon clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Chioma Gabriel at No. 3. Adriana Armendariz defeated Bowen in three sets, 6-2, 2-6, 10-3, at No. 1 to make it 4-2 at the conclusion of singles play.

Despite the match result decided, the teams played doubles and the Pride earned the point, winning two of the three matches. Bowen and Pestano defeated Armendariz and Kauffman, 6-3, at No. 1, while Kaplan and Herndon downed Graff and Ivanova, 6-2, at No. 2. Gabriel and Rayne Ruoff defeated Jariwala and Leone, 7-5, in a competitive match at third doubles.

Hofstra is back in action Saturday with a pair of matches. The Pride host Saint Francis (PA) at Noon and Saint Francis Brooklyn at 4 p.m.
