WTEN: Hofstra Sweeps Hartford

Guilford, CT - Hofstra swept all nine matches against Hartford on the way to a 7-0 victory Saturday evening in Guilford, Connecticut.

The Pride improved to 4-1 overall this season and rebounded from their first loss Friday night. The Hawks slipped to 4-9 on the season.

Hofstra took the doubles points, dropping just two games in the process. Sarah Bowen and Carmen Pestano earned a 6-0 win over Skyler Schaar and Karolina Pilip at first doubles. Sarah Catherine Herndon and Michal Kaplan picked up a 6-1 victory at second doubles over Hannah Goldman and Meredith Heitland. Giulia Leone and Ria Shah completed the sweep with a 6-1 win at third doubles over Angela and Gianna Sabino.

The Pride was equally dominant in singles, winning five matches in straight sets. Bowen downed Schaar without dropping a set (6-0, 6-0) at first singles. Kaplan downed Heitland, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 2 singles, while Herndon posted an identical victory over Goldman at third singles. Pestano picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win over Pilip at No. 4, while Leone had a 6-0, 6-3 win at the fifth flight over Emily Lindsley. Shah and Angela Sabino had the most competitive match of the night, going three sets with the Hofstra sophomore coming out on the winning side of a 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 score.

Hofstra will be back in action Wednesday afternoon at Albany. Match time is 12 p.m.
