WTEN: Hofstra Cruises Past Fairfield

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra Women's tennis Team won its third consecutive match with a 6-1 victory over Fairfield Wednesday afternoon at the Hofstra Outdoor Tennis Center.

Hofstra improved to 7-2 overall. Fairfield fell to 1-12 on the year.

The Pride won all three doubles matches to start and claim a 1-0 lead in the match. Disha Yellayi and Giulia Leone, the reigning CAA Doubles Team of the Week, made quick work of Meghan Zimmer and Meghan Ziegler at third doubles with a 6-0 win. Sarah Bowen and Carmen Pestano dispatched Nicole Aragones and Courtney Connors, 6-1, at first doubles to clinch the point. Sarah Catherine Herndon and Michal Kaplan posted a 6-3 win at second doubles over Gabriella Campos and Cecilia Parla.

Hofstra won five of the six singles matches as Herndon got things started with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Campos at the third flight. Pestano posted a 6-2, 6-0 win at fourth singles over Connors before Kaplan clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-1 second flight win over Zimmer. Bowen added to the score with a 6-0, 7-5 victory at the first flight over Aragones, while Leone picked up a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the fifth flight over Parla. Ziegler had Fairfield's lone win with a 2-6, 6-1, 10-3 win over Ria Shah at the sixth flight.

Hofstra returns to action Saturday when it hosts Towson at 2 p.m.
