WTEN: Hofstra Downs Delaware Saturday Night

Oceanside, NY - Hofstra  won four singles matches and took the doubles point in a 5-2 victory over Delaware Saturday night at Point Set Indoor.

Hofstra improved to 6-2 on the season and 1-1 in Colonial Athletic Association play. Delaware fell to 7-3 overall and 0-1 in league play.

After dropping the first flight double match, Hofstra stormed back and won the next two flights to clinch the point. Sarah Catherine Herndon and Michal Kaplan downed Draga Sabotic and Arielle Shuren, 6-2, at second doubles and Disha Yellayi and Giulia Leone earned a 6-4 win at third doubles over Sarah Hall and Annie Jaskulski.

Sarah Bowen opened singles with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Amanda Studnicki at first singles. After a Delaware win at the third flight, Kaplan won at second singles over Denny LaMachia, 6-2, 3-6, 6-0. Yellayi followed with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 win over Hall at the fifth flight to give the Pride a 4-1 lead and clinch the match. Delaware won at sixth singles befoe Carmen Pestano ended the match with a 6-7, 6-2, 13-11 win over Hall at the fourth flight.

The Pride returns to action when they host Fairfield on Wednesday, March 23 at 3 p.m. at the Hofstra Outdoor Tennis Center.
