MBB: Back To Florida For Hofstra, Owls Await

Hempstead, NY – You might think the Hofstra Men's Basketball team is becoming snowbirds as the Pride will head to the Sunshine State for the second time in two weeks as this Saturday they will face Florida Atlantic at 7 p.m.

There will be Pride Productions live audio for the game, as well as live video (via Florida Atlantic) and live statistics. The audio only broadcast can be heard via the Pride Productions portal, the WRHU mobile app, WRHU.org and 88.7 FM in the local Hempstead area. Links to all can be found on this page and on the men's basketball schedule page at GoHofstra.com.

Hofstra (5-3) has won three straight games, including an 88-86 road win at Columbia on Tuesday. Hofstra placed five players in double figures, led by 21 points from senior Brian Bernardi. It was a magical night for the sharp-shooter as he drained five three-pointers to not only become just the third player in program history to reach 200 career Hofstra three-pointers, but he also moved into second place all-time at Hofstra. He now has 202 at Hofstra and only trails Antoine Agudio, who had 357 from 2004-08.

Bernardi took over the scoring lead for the Pride and now is averaging 14.9 points per game to slightly rank above freshman Eli Pemberton's 14.5 points per outing. Junior Rokas Gustys continues to lead Hofstra and all of NCAA Division I men's basketball with 13.9 rebounds per game. Senior Deron Powers ranks first on the team with 30 assists.

Florida Atlantic is 2-4 this season with wins over Edward Waters and South Florida. Their losses have come against Texas State, SIU Edwardsville, Hawaii and UT Martin. Ronald Delph leads the Owls with 12.5 points, while Nick Rutherford (11.3) and Gerdarius Troutman (10.3) also average in double figures.

Delph also is tops on the team with 9.7 rebounds per game and Rutherford has dished out 37 assists to lead the team.

This will mark the 10th all-time meeting between Hofstra and Florida Atlantic on the hardwood with the Pride leading the series, 6-3. The first-ever meeting occurred during the 1997-98 season with Hofstra picking up a 71-62 victory. The Pride won the first five meetings in the series and won last season's meeting in Hempstead by the score of 68-54.
