VB: Hofstra Drops Road Decision To Towson

Towson, MD – The Hofstra Volleyball team dropped a three-set decision to Towson on Friday evening at SECU Arena.

The Tigers won by scores of 25-21, 25-19 and 25-23.

The loss ended a three-match win streak for Hofstra, which dropped to 19-8 overall and 9-5 in Colonial Athletic Association play. Towson improved to 21-7 and 8-5 in conference play.

Senior Sophia Black posted 12 digs for Hofstra, while freshman Luisa Sydlik had 11 assists. Senior Veronika Kostova and freshman Laura Masciullo led the Pride with six kills.

Hofstra struggled offensively all match, hitting at just an .057 clip.

Towson took an early lead in the opening stanza and Hofstra was never able to rebound, only getting as close as two, 20-18, late in the set.

The second set was knotted at 11 before Towson went on a 10-4 run to open up a 21-15 lead as they would go on to capture the six-point victory.

The final stanza proved to be the closest of the match as Hofstra rallied from a late 20-18 deficit to knot the set at 20. The teams would battle back and forth and the set would eventually be knotted again, this time at 23, following a Pride service ace. Towson would answer, though, and score the final two points of the set to capture the match.

Marissa Wonders tallied 17 assists and eight digs for Towson, while Candace Steadman posted seven kills and six blocks.

Hofstra is back in action on Sunday when it travels to Delaware for a 1 p.m. match.
