MBB: Hofstra Rolls Past Medaille 89-56

Hempstead, NY - Justin Wright-Foreman scored a career-high 18 points to lead four Pride players in double-figures as Hofstra rolled to a 89-56 win over visiting Medaille Friday evening at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex. Hofstra improved to 4-3 with the win, while Medaille dropped to 1-3 on the year with the loss. The game was part of the 2016 Gulf Coast Showcase.

Hofstra took an 8-6 lead on a three-pointer from Ty Greer with 17:02 to play and extended to an eight point advantage (14-6) on three-pointers from Brian Bernardi and Eli Pemberton on its next two possessions. The Mavericks got within three, 17-14, on a baseline jumper from Mike Hollenbeck with 11:06 to play before Hofstra snapped a scoreless drought of more than three minutes with a three-pointer from Wright-Foreman that made the score 20-14 in favor of the Pride with 10:48 to go. The Pride would push the lead to 11, 29-18, on a Greer tip in with 6:28 to go. The junior from Chicago would give the Pride a 13-point edge, 33-20, with a coast-to-coast layup with 4:34 on the clock. Hofstra would hold 14-point advantages on two occasions and Medaille would not get closer than 10 points as the Pride held a 41-27 lead at the half.

Bernardi scored Hofstra's first seven points of the second half as the Pride built a 48-27 lead with 17:55 to go. Ford scored four straight points for the Mavericks as Medaille got within 17, 50-33, with 16:01 on the clock. Medaille scored seven consecutive points to get within 10, 50-40, with 14:54 to go on a three-pointer from Ford. But a dunk from Hunter Sabety and a three-pointer from Pemberton pushed the lead back to 15, 55-40, with 14:22 remaining. Leading 60-45 with 12:06 to go, Hofstra used an 8-0 run to go up by 23, 68-45, with 9:54 to play. Wright-Foreman had six of the Pride's points. Medaille would not get closer than 21 the rest of the way.

In addition to Wright-Foreman, Hofstra received 17 points from Bernardi, 13 points from Greer and 11 points from Deron Powers. Rokas Gustys had eight points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Greer added a season-high eight rebounds. Pemberton posted eight points to go along with six assists, while Sabety matched his season-best with seven points and set a new season-high with six rebounds and five blocks.

Medaille was led by Hollenbeck's 17 points and seven rebounds. Ford finished with 12 points for the Mavericks.

Hofstra is back in action Tuesday when it travels into New York City for a 7 p.m. contest at Columbia.

NOTES:
-Hofstra had a 32-9 advantage in bench points
-The Pride shot a season-best 52-percent (31-60)
-Hofstra had 11 blocked shots in the game, five by Sabety and three from Andre Walker
-The game was the first-ever meeting between Medaille and Hofstra
