Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra Men's Basketball team will head to sunny Florida for three games at the Gulf Coast Showcase as the Pride will open tournament play on Monday when it takes on Bradley at 1:30 p.m.
All games will be played at the Germain Arena in Estero, Florida.
There will be Pride Productions live audio for the game, as well as live video (via Gulf Coast Showcase) and live statistics. The audio only broadcast can be heard via the Pride Productions portal, WRHU.org, WRHU mobile app and 88.7 FM locally in the Hempstead area. Links to all can be found on this page and on the men's basketball schedule page at GoHofstra.com.
Hofstra (1-2) will look to regroup and get back on the winning track as the Pride enter the tournament having dropped their last two games. Hofstra is coming off an 80-68 setback to Manhattan on Friday evening despite a career-high 17 points from sophomore
Justin Wright-Foreman.
The Pride also got 15 points from freshman
Eli Pemberton and 14 from senior
Brian Bernardi to round out the players in double figures against the Jaspers. For Pemberton it marked his third straight game in double figures to open his Hofstra career. He becomes only the second player in the Pride's Colonial Athletic Association history (since 2001) to achieve that feat as Antoine Agudio had 20 at Florida International, 13 versus La Salle and 22 at Binghamton to open the 2004-05 campaign.
Pemberton (19.3), Bernardi (14.0) and Wright-Foreman (10.7) lead Hofstra in scoring this season, while junior
Rokas Gustys is tops on the team with 14.7 caroms per outing. Bernardi also has dished out a team-high 10 assists so far.
Bradley is 2-1 to open the 2016-17 season with wins over Illinois Springfield (70-55) and Southeast Missouri State (84-78). Their lone defeat came at the hands of the Pride's CAA rival Delaware by the score of 63-49.
JoJo McGlaston leads the Braves with 13 points per game, while Darrell Brown (11 ppg) and Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye (10.3 ppg) are also averaging in double figures. Koch Bar leads Bradley with 6.3 rebounds per game and Brown has nine assists this season to lead the Braves.
This marks the first-ever meeting between Hofstra and Bradley in the sport of men's basketball.
Hofstra's second game in Florida will be against either Vermont or Wofford.
