WSOC: Hofstra Gets First Conference Win With 3-1 Victory Over Elon

Hempstead, N.Y. – Hofstra Women's Soccer got back in the win column Friday night, with senior Jill Mulholland's goal and two assists leading the Pride to a 3-1 victory over Elon at Hofstra Soccer Stadium, marking the Pride's first Colonial Athletic Association win of the season.

Hofstra (7-6-1, 1-4 CAA) got things started early, scoring in the third minute when Mulholland's rebound came out to junior Kristin Desmond, who tucked it away into the open left side of the net. The goal was Desmond's sixth of the season, second on the team behind Mulholland.

The Pride held onto the one-goal lead through the first half, with help from redshirt-sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Wilson tipping an Elon shot over the crossbar.

Hofstra then opened the second half with a goal as well, taking a 2-0 lead in the 46th minute. Mulholland took advantage of an errant clear by the Elon backline, settling the ball and turning to shoot, blasting her shot off the crossbar and in for her league-leading ninth goal of the season.

Junior Noriana Radwan pushed the advantage to three in the 57th minute, after Mulholland slid her a pass at the top of the box. The tally was Radwan's fourth goal of the season, and Mulholland recorded her seventh assist, taking over the CAA lead in that category as well.

Mulholland is now sixth all-time in Hofstra Women's Soccer history with 69 points and moved into a tie for seventh with 26 career goals.

With Hofstra subbing out its starters, Elon (7-6-1, 2-2 CAA) found the back of the net in the 83rd minute to spoil the Pride's clean sheet, with Erin Tanhuaser scoring on Kara DeGuisto's pass.

Hofstra is now 4-1 on home turf this season and will play its remaining four regular season games at Hofstra Soccer Stadium, beginning with a 1 p.m. tilt against William & Mary on Sunday.
