ATH: Banda And Hughes Named CAA SAAC Representatives

Hempstead, NY - Sophomore women's cross country runner Felicia Banda and senior wrestler Michael Hughes have been selected to represent Hofstra University as members of the Colonial Athletic Association Student-Athlete Advisory Committee during the 2016-17 academic year.

"I am excited for Felicia and Michael on their selection as CAA SAAC representatives," said Hofstra University Vice President and Director of Athletics Jeffrey A. Hathaway. "Felicia and Michael are both excellent student-athletes and I know that they will do an outstanding job as members of the CAA SAAC while representing their fellow Hofstra student-athletes."

Banda, a Westminster, Massachusetts, native, is in her second year at Hofstra and competed in all six meets as a freshman. She finished 14th at the Brown Rothenberg run with a season best 5K time of 18:05 and had her best 6K time of 21:56 to place 19th at the CAA Championship. Banda is in her first year as a representative on Hofstra's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Hughes, a native of Smithtown, New York, serves as Hofstra SAAC's Executive Board as community service student coordinator and has been very active in the Pride's community service endeavors during the past few years. He was the recipient of the Hofstra Pride Community Service Award at the 2016 Student-Athlete Awards Banquet, which is awarded on the basis of the total number of community service projects/hours during an academic year as well as overall enthusiasm for community service involvement. On the mat, Hughes enjoyed a very successful 2015-16 campaign as he won 41 matches and qualified for the NCAA Wrestling Championships at Madison Square Garden. The 41 wins are tied for the third-most in a single season at Hofstra.

The purpose of the CAA SAAC is to represent the needs, interests, concerns, and welfare of the Association's student-athletes. The CAA depends on the CAA SAAC representatives to serve as the voice of all student-athletes on their respective campuses.

The pair will take part in the annual CAA SAAC Leadership Summit, which will be held on Sunday-Monday, November 6-7, 2016, at Northeastern University.
