VB: Hofstra Drops Road Tilt To James Madison

Harrisonburg, VA – Freshman Laura Masciullo posted a team-high 20 kills and graduate Semen Sen had 10 kills and a .500 attack percentage, but James Madison won the final two sets to capture a four-set win over the Hofstra Volleyball team on Sunday afternoon at Godwin Gymnasium.

Hofstra slipped to 16-7 overall and 6-4 in Colonial Athletic Association play with the loss, while JMU improved to 14-10 and 6-5 in conference action. Set scores were 25-23, 27-29, 25-18 and 25-18 in favor of the Dukes.

James Madison won a close first set to take the early lead in the contest before Hofstra rallied back to earn a 29-27 win in the second stanza as they needed "extra time" to knot the match at one set apiece.

It was not to be for Hofstra, though, as the Dukes hit nearly .400 in the third set to take the lead in the match and would put away the Pride with another strong fourth stanza.

Freshman Luisa Sydlik posted a match-high 38 assists for Hofstra, while senior Sophia Black had 11 digs to lead the Pride.

Janey Goodman tallied 22 kills to lead all players in the match for JMU. The Dukes also got 26 assists and seven digs from Tilbe Yaglioglu and 27 digs from Taylor Austin.

Hofstra returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Northeastern at 7 p.m.
