WSOC: Seniors Lead The Way As Hofstra Cruises Past James Madison

Hempstead, N.Y. – After a frenetic start that included three goals in the game's first 10 minutes, Hofstra Women's Soccer took control and sailed to a big 4-1 win over conference foe James Madison on Friday night at Hofstra Soccer Stadium.

In a must-win situation to keep the Pride's CAA Tournament hopes alive, senior Jill Mulholland scored twice and classmate Emily Agudelo added a pair of assists as Hofstra improved to 9-7-1 and 3-5 in Colonial Athletic Association play.

James Madison (8-9, 5-3 CAA) came into the contest in a tie for first and struck early, with CAA Preseason Player of the Year Ashley Herndon scoring in just the second minute.

Hofstra responded quickly, however, with Mulholland netting her first of the day in the eighth minute, corralling a ball about 20 yards out and firing a hard shot low into the left side.

Sophomore Madeline Anderson then quickly gave the Pride the lead, heading in Agudelo's corner kick just two minutes later.

The first-half frenzy calmed from there and Hofstra took its 2-1 lead into halftime. Junior Noriana Radwan started things back up in the second half, though, sending a free kick from deep that appeared to be going over the net, but dropped at the last second past the hands of Dukes goalkeeper Hannah McShea.

Mulholland then sealed the victory in the 78th minute with another set-piece goal, tapping in a ball in the box after sophomore Sabrina Barton had deflected Agudelo's corner kick.

Senior goalkeeper Friederike Mehring played the full 90 minutes for the first time this season after splitting games with redshirt-sophomore Ashley Wilson. Mehring made four saves in the win.

Hofstra plays its final game of the regular season at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Hofstra Soccer Stadium, hosting Towson for Senior Day. The Pride must win for a chance to advance to the CAA Tournament.
