WSOC: Hofstra Tops Towson, 1-0, In Season Finale

Hempstead, N.Y. – Senior Jill Mulholland scored in the 74th minute to give Hofstra Women's Soccer a 1-0 win over Towson in a must-win situation in the final game of the regular season on Sunday afternoon at Hofstra Soccer Stadium. Despite the win, the Pride just missed qualifying for the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament, ending in a tie for sixth but losing the tiebreaker to College of Charleston.

The victory, however, marked the Pride's 10th of the season, marking the 10th straight year that Hofstra has posted double-digit victories under Head Coach Simon Riddiough.

The Pride (10-7-1, 4-5 Colonial Athletic Association) controlled the offense, outshooting the Tigers, 17-4, and not allowing a shot on goal. Mulholland found the back of the net late in the second half after sophomore Brianna Doran sent a ball into classmate Sabrina Barton on the right wing. Barton crossed it into Mulholland, who tapped it in from close range.

Mulholland now ranks fifth in Hofstra Women's Soccer history with 30 career goals, is tied for seventh for single-season goals with 13 and is tied for fifth in single-season points with 34.

The Pride had a number of chances on set pieces, including Madeline Anderson getting a head on two of senior Emily Agudelo's corner kicks but just barely missing the target. Junior Kristin Desmond also got in behind the Towson defense midway through the second half and went one-on-one with Tigers goalkeeper Taylor Sebolao, but Sebolao slid out and smothered the ball.

Towson dropped to 6-12-1 and 3-6 in CAA play with the loss, which also eliminated the Tigers from playoff contention.
