MBB: Hofstra Cruises To Victory Over Towson, 90-58

Towson, MD – Junior guard Brian Bernardi had 21 points, including four three-pointers, to lead a balanced attack as the Hofstra Men's Basketball went on the road for the first in conference play and earned a commanding 90-58 victory over Towson on Saturday evening at SECU Arena.

The Pride also got great games out of sophomore center Rokas Gustys (nine points, 11 rebounds and three assists) and graduate forward Denton Koon (15 points and nine rebounds).

The win was Hofstra's fourth straight, its longest since a six-game win streak last season from December 28, 2014-January 10, 2015.

With the win, Hofstra improves to 10-4 this season and 2-0 in Colonial Athletic Association play. Towson falls to 10-5 and 1-1 in league action.

Hofstra was clicking on all cylinders in a stellar first half as the Pride led by as many as 18 before taking a 45-29 lead into the locker room. Freshman guard Desure Buie provided a huge lift in the opening 20 minutes off the bench as he had eight points and four assists before halftime.

The Pride would pull away over the final few minutes of the first stanza as a three-pointer from Koon at the 3:41 mark would start a half-ending 14-4 Hofstra run that turned a 31-25 Pride lead into the 16-point halftime advantage. Buie really shined during the run as he scored six of the Pride's 14 points during the spurt.

Hofstra would continue to keep its lead in double digits through the early stages of the second half with Towson only closing to within 12 on one occasion with 17:45 left following a three-point play from Mike Morsell.

With the Pride lead still at 13, 55-42 at the 16:24 mark, Hofstra would gradually expand its advantage and over the next few minutes used a 10-4 run to open up a 65-46 lead following a three-pointer from Koon.

Towson made it a 17-point game at the 11:19 mark before Hofstra took complete control of the contest as they scored seven straight points, including a three-pointer from junior guard Brian Bernardi at the 9:30 mark, to make it 72-48 in favor of the visitors.

Hofstra would never seriously be challenged the rest of the way as they cruised to the easy road win.

Senior guard Juan'ya Green added 16 points, seven assists and five rebounds, while senior forward Ameen Tanksley chipped in with 14 points for the Pride.
