WSOC: Four-Goal First Half Pushes Hofstra To Win Over CCSU

New Haven, Conn. – Junior midfielder Jill Mulholland notched two goals in the first 11 minutes to springboard Hofstra to a 4-0 win over Central Connecticut State on Sunday afternoon in the finale of the Yale Invitational at Reese Stadium.

Mulholland's first two goals of the season marked her second career multi-goal game and extended Hofstra's winning streak to four. The Pride improved to 4-2 while handing CCSU (2-1-1) the first loss of the campaign.

Junior midfielder Emily Agudelo and sophomore Noriana Radwan each added goals to give Hofstra a 4-0 halftime lead. The Pride out-shot the Blue Devils, 16-11, and scored four goals on its first five on-target shots. Hofstra scored nine combined goals in the two victories in the Yale Invitational, including a 5-4 win over the Bulldogs.

Sophomore Emily Hulbert and senior Jeannine Molleda teamed to set up Mulholland's seventh-minute goal to open the scoring. Hulbert's centering pass set up Mulholland's drive from 15 yards out that marked her first goal of 2015. Molleda, who scored the double-overtime golden goal over Yale Friday night, extended her points streak to three and has tallied six total points over that span.

Senior defender Mallory Ullrich, who notched a career-high three assists against Yale, registered her fourth assist in two games by facilitating Mulholland's 11-minute second goal. Ullrich sent in a corner that Mulholland finished from close range. That marked her first two-goal game in almost a calendar year (Sept. 7, 2014 versus Indiana State).

Agudelo's left-footed shot from 20 yards out put Hofstra ahead by three goals in the 38th minute. Her first goal of the year provided a cushion and Radwan gave the Pride an additional lift after coming off the bench to score her first career goal with 40 seconds remaining before the break. Radwan, a UConn transfer, struck a left-footed shot from 35 yards out for her first goal in her 14th career game.

Sophomore goalkeeper Carolyn Carrera made her collegiate debut in playing the final 11 minutes. Carrera also plays on the Hofstra Women's Lacrosse team. She teamed with junior goalkeeper Friederike Mehring on the shutout. Mehring, who has started every game this season, made four saves.

The Pride recorded its second shutout of the season, including blanking Columbia on Aug. 28.

Hofstra will return home to face Stony Brook on Friday at 7 p.m. in a battle of Long Island-based schools.
