WLAX: Hofstra Falls To Towson In Overtime Of CAA Semifinals

Newark, DE – Sophomore attacker Tiana Parrella posted a pair of goals and senior attacker Brittain Altomare notched three assists for Hofstra, but it was not enough as Towson defeated the Pride Women's Lacrosse team, 7-3, in overtime of the Colonial Athletic Association semifinal at Delaware Stadium.

Towson, which advances to Sunday's CAA Championship Game, overcame a 2-0 halftime deficit in earning the overtime win. Hofstra, which defeated the Tigers 8-7 in double overtime during the regular season, falls to 11-6 with the loss. The Tigers are now 9-8 this season.

Senior goalie Kelsey Gregerson had a strong game for the Pride as she made 10 saves and had three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers as well.

Both teams were stellar defensively in the opening half as Hofstra would take a 2-0 lead into the break as junior midfielder Lindsey Alfano and Parrella scored for the Pride.

The contest was scoreless for the first 11 minutes until Parrella tallied her 22nd of the season off an assist from Altomare. Hofstra would add to its lead just over four minutes later when Altomare fed Alfano to make it 2-0 in favor of the Pride. The two first half points extended Altomare's point-scoring to 54 consecutive games, while Alfano's goal was her 17th of the season.

It was a sloppy first half for both squads as the two teams combined for 13 turnovers with Hofstra caused three of Towson's seven miscues. The Pride won all three draw controls contested in the opening 30 minutes to assist in keeping possession in their offensive end.

Neither team would score over the first nearly 15 minutes of the second half until Jenna Kerr scored twice for Towson in a minute span to knot the score at two with 14:31 left in the second stanza.

Parrella would tally her second of the game at the 7:26 mark of the second half to push the lead back in Hofstra's favor at 3-2.

The game would go down to the final minutes with the Tigers finally tying the score with 4:40 to play in regulation as Andi Raymond scored an unassisted goal.

With neither team able to find the back of the net the rest of the second half the game would head to overtime tied at three.

The overtime period was all Towson as the Tigers scored four times, with the game-winner coming off the stick of Paige Duncan with 2:15 left.

Alfano added three ground balls for the Pride, while junior defender Shelby Milne notched two caused turnovers and two ground balls.

Raymond finished with five points on three goals and two assists for Towson, while Michelle Gildea had four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
