ATH: Hall of Fame Inductee Spotlight - Robin (Kammerer) Conversano

Hempstead, NY - Each week, leading up to the Hofstra Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Dinner on April 12, GoHofstra.com will feature members of the Class of 2015. Today's spotlight is on former field hockey great Robin (Kammerer) Conversano '93.

Robin (Kammerer) Conversano was a standout goalkeeper on the field hockey team from 1989 through 1992 in addition to being a midfielder on the women's lacrosse team in 1992 and 1993. She holds the Hofstra Field Hockey career record for saves and ranks third all-time in NCAA Division I history with 1,139. Her single season total of 396 saves in 1990 is a school record and is the third-highest total in NCAA Division I history as well.

Conversano earned All-East Coast Conference accolades in 1990 and 1991, and was a Mideast Region All-America selection in 1992. In addition to holding the single season saves records, she also ranks third and fourth in single season saves with 349 in 1991 and 279 in 1992.

As a junior, Conversano was the recipient of the Dr. Sylvia J. Giallombardo Award for outstanding achievement in physical education and athletics. As a senior in 1993 she received the Dr. Nathalie J. Smith Award as Hofstra's Female Athlete of the Year.

Conversano was also Hofstra's NCAA Woman of the Year nominee in 1993 in recognition of her outstanding athletic abilities, academic excellence and dedication to community service.

Upon graduation in 1993 with a degree in exercise science, Conversano returned to Hofstra as an assistant coach for the field hockey and women's lacrosse teams under Head Coach Carie Bodo.

After leaving Hofstra, Conversano attended Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City to pursue a physician's assistant degree. For the past 15 years she has been practicing at an orthopedic surgery office specializing in sports medicine in Smithtown, New York.

Conversano currently resides in Huntington, New York, with her husband, Chris.  The couple has three children – a son, Matthew, and daughters, Jordan and Mackenzie. Conversano remains involved in sports by coaching youth field hockey and lacrosse in the Harborfields community and by rooting on her children in their athletic endeavors.
