ATH: Hall of Fame Inductee Spotlight - Kathleen (McPike) Taylor

Hempstead, NY - Leading up to the Hofstra Athletics Hall of Fame Dinner on April 12, GoHofstra.com will be featuring each of the 10 inductees. Today's spotlight is on former women's lacrosse great Kathleen (McPike) Taylor.

"I am honored to have had the opportunity to play with Kathleen McPike during my time at Hofstra. Kathleen was the epitome of what you looked for in a student-athlete, as she excelled both in the classroom and on the field. She was one of the fastest and most unselfish players that I ever played with and she still ranks second all-time in assists at Hofstra. She challenged you daily to bring out the best player you could be and is someone you aspire to be like. I am proud to call her my teammate, friend and fellow Hofstra Athletics Hall of Fame inductee. Congratulations, Kathleen, on an honor well deserved!" - Kathleen (Mikowski) Durnin, Hall of Fame Class of 2013

Kathleen (McPike) Taylor was a member of the women's lacrosse program from 1998 through 2001 and is one of just seven Pride players to earn Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association All-America honors. A third team All-America selection in 2001 after tallying a school record 73 points, Taylor recorded 124 goals, 82 assists and 206 points in her stellar career that also saw her earn two IWLCA All-Region and two All-America East Conference selections.

Her 82 assists were a school record until 2014, while her then-record 34 assists in 2000 stood for 13 years. She currently ranks second all-time in assists, sixth in goals and fourth in points. Taylor was part of the Pride's first NCAA Tournament team in 2001 and was the Most Valuable Player at the 2001 America East Women's Lacrosse Championship. She was also a member of the IWLCA Academic Squad in 2000 and 2001.

In 2001 Taylor was awarded the Dr. Nathalie J. Smith Award as Hofstra's Female Athlete of the Year. She was recognized as the most outstanding senior athlete for women's lacrosse in 2001 as well.

Taylor went on to receive a master's degree in health education from Hofstra and also holds a master's degree in school district administration and school administration/supervision from LIU Post.

A physical education teacher in the Harborfields Central School District for the past 14 years, Taylor has coached varsity lacrosse for 10 years as well as field hockey and basketball at the middle and high school level.

A resident of East Northport, New York, Taylor and her husband, Damien, have two daughters – Kate and Kennedy.
