Charleston, SC - Charleston's Taylor Clarke allowed four hits over seven innings and combined with two relievers to post a 8-0 win over the Pride Friday Night at The Ballpark at Patriots Point.
The league-leading Cougars improved to 7-0 in the Colonial Athletic Association and 19-7 overall. Hofstra fell to 2-5 in league play and 9-14 overall.
Charleston jumped out to a 5-0 lead after one inning as the first five batters recorded hits. Carl Wise had an RBI single, Blake Butler an RBI double, Nick Pappas a two-run single and Erven Roper added a RBI groundout to account for the runs. Charleston would tack on two more runs in the second and one in the fifth on Bradley Jones' home run.
The Pride's
Steven Foster had two of Hofstra's six hits, including a double.
Dalton Rouleau also had a double for Hofstra.
Chris Bonk (2-4) started for the Pride and allowed five runs on six hits in one inning of work.
Adam Heidenfelder pitched the final seven innings and allowed three runs on seven hits.
Clarke (6-1) struck out seven in his seven innings. Will Detwiller and Carter Love pitched the eighth and ninth innings, respectively, and allowed one hit each
Pappas finished with three RBIs on the evening, while Wise and Jones each posted three hits.
The series continues Saturday at 3 p.m.
