SB: Hofstra Earns Split In Second Day Of LSU Invitational

Baton Rouge, La. – Hofstra senior pitcher Morgan Lashley threw a six-inning no-hitter to help the Pride post the first victory of 2015 with an 8-0 win over Central Arkansas in the first game before the Pride fell to nationally ranked Louisiana State University, 8-0, as the squad split two games on the second day of the LSU Invitation on Saturday at Tiger Park.

Lashley struck out seven and senior center fielder Caryn Bailey drove in two runs to help Hofstra Head Coach Larissa Anderson record her first career victory in the opening game. Lashley needed just 76 pitches to get through six innings while freshman Brielle Pietrafesa drove in two runs to notch her first career multi-RBI game.

In the second game, 16th ranked LSU won in five innings as Kelsee Selman threw a complete-game one-hitter for the Tigers. Hofstra is now 1-3 on the season while LSU stayed undefeated at 9-0 thanks in part to Bianka Bell's three RBIs in support of Selman.

Lashley (1-1) registered her second no-hitter since joining the Pride before the 2014 season. The right-hander allowed just two walks and threw her first no-hitter since a five-inning no-no when she faced just one batter over the minimum versus Drexel on May 3, 2014.

Hofstra staked Lashley to an early lead on Pietrafesa's first career home run in the second. Junior Danielle Bitts worked a two-out walk and Pietrafesa pulled Shivaun Landeros' pitch to left-center for the 2-0 lead. The long ball was Pietrafesa's first career hit.

Landeros allowed six runs (four earned) in 3 2/3 innings in falling to 1-3. Hofstra capitalized on five Central Arkansas errors to post the six-inning run-rule victory.

Sophomore Lacey Clark's RBI ground out in the third extended Hofstra's lead and Bitts recorded her first career RBI in 12 games over three seasons with a run-scoring single to the left side that plated redshirt freshman Rachel Simodejka. Bailey added a two-run single to center.

In the fifth, sophomore Michaela Transue drove in a run with a ground out and Hofstra scored on the fifth Central Arkansas error in the bottom of the sixth to end the game. The contest marked the first victory for Anderson, who served as an assistant at Hofstra for 13 seasons before taking over for the retired Bill Edwards entering 2015.

Selman walked just one and struck out eight for LSU in the second game. The Tigers lined seven hits and scored five runs (four earned) off Hofstra senior pitcher Taylor Pirone, who fell to 0-2.

Clark posted Hofstra's only hit in the game. Selman improved to 2-0.

Hofstra will cap the five-game tournament on Sunday at 10 a.m. against Notre Dame.
