Armonk, NY - The Hofstra Women's Tennis team opened up their spring season with a 5-2 win over Colgate Saturday night at the Armonk Tennis Club.
Hofstra improves to 2-0 on the season with the win, while Colgate slips to 1-1.
Hofstra swept doubles to earn the point. The Pride dropped just four games over the three matches with
Giulia Leone and
Bianca Posa posting a 6-0 win at third doubles.
Sarah Bowen and
Carmen Pestano bested Colgate's Jennifer Ho and Hannah Fleckenstein at the first flight by a 6-1 margin.
Louise Lopez and
Bianca Derrick won over Kirstie Woodbury and Katie Grant at second doubles, 6-3.
Derrick won a thrilling three-set match at fifth singles over Kelly Klein. Derrick dropped the first set, 6-1, before storming back to take the next two sets, 6-1 and 10-8, to notch the win.
Lopez, Pestano and Leone also won their singles matches, all in straight sets.
Ho and Madnick picked up the only wins for the Red Raiders on the day.
The Pride is back in action on February 14 at Lafayette.
