Hempstead, NY - Junior guard Brian Bernardi scored six straight points during a game-turning 14-1 late second half run as Hofstra came from behind to defeat Sacred Heart, 80-73, at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex Monday night.

Senior guard Juan'ya Green led the Pride with 22 points, scoring 20 in the second half. Sophomore forward Rokas Gustys had a career-high 17 points and added 10 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season.

The teams played a tightly contested first half with Sacred Heart holding a 41-37 lead at intermission. Neither team held more than a four point lead until the Pioneers went on an 11-3 run late in the half to turn a 26-26 tie to a 37-29 lead with 3:56 to go following a three-point play from Jordan Allen. The 2014 Hofstra graduate and former Pride player had five points in the run, while Cane Broome contributed four points. The Pride would answer with a half-closing 8-4 run to cut the deficit in half. Bernardi had four of his 10 first half points in the spurt.

The Pride would cut the deficit to eight, 50-42 after a three-point play from Green with 16:58 on the clock. The Pride would pull within three, 56-53, on graduate forward Denton Koon's three-pointer with 11:44 to play. But Matej Buovac drained a three-pointer of his own to put the Pioneers back up by six, 59-53, with 11:21 on the clock.

Trailing 65-58, the Pride used a 6-0 run to get within one at 65-64 with 7:09 to play after a layup from Green. After Sacred Heart's Eyimofe Edukugho made one of two free throws, Bernardi put the Pride ahead, 67-66, with a three-pointer with 5:51 to play. On Hofstra's next possession, the junior guard hit a three-pointer from the top of the arc to push the Pride's advantage to four, 70-66. The Pioneers would get within three with 3:05 remaining and then again with 1:20 to go (76-73), but Hofstra would convert four free throws by Green down the stretch to seal the win.
