WBB: Hofstra Improves To 3-0 With Win At American

Washington, DC - Ashunae Durant posted her third consecutive double-double with game-highs of 18 points and 14 rebounds, and Kelly Loftus and Krystal Luciano each added 13 points as Hofstra improved to 3-0 with a 60-51 win over American at Bender Arena Thursday night.

The Pride remained perfect after three games for the first time since the 2009-10 season. American, the defending Patriot League champion, fell to 0-3 on the season.

After American opened the scoring, the Pride responded with 12 straight points and never looked back. Loftus was the offensive catalyst in the early going as she tallied seven points in the run as Hofstra led 12-2 with 4:25 left in the first period. The Pride went up by 11, 15-4, on Luciano's second three-pointer of the period with 2:51 remaining in the stanza. American would score the final four points and trailed 15-8 after 10 minutes of action.

The Eagles pulled within three, 19-16, midway through the second period on Ari Booth's three-pointer before Hofstra closed out the period with a 15-4 spurt that gave them a 34-20 lead at halftime. Asia Jackson started the run with a three-pointer and Durant added nine points, including seven consecutive, at one point.

American never got closer than seven points over the final two periods as Hofstra grew the lead to a game-high 16, 56-40, with 2:53 left in the game on a pair of Luciano free throws.

Durant was 7-10 from the floor and seven of her 14 rebounds came on the offensive glass. Loftus added four rebounds and two steals, while Luciano passed for eight assists and grabbed three boards. Darius Faulk and Anjie White each pulled down five rebounds.

Booth led American with 15 points, while Emily Kinneston posted 11 points.

Hofstra returns to action Tuesday when it travels to Fairfield for a 7 p.m. tip. The Pride will be seeking their first 4-0 start since the 1997-98 season.
