MBB: Hofstra Heads To Paradise Jam To Face Florida State

Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra Men's Basketball team will put its unblemished 2-0 mark on the line on Friday when the Pride take on Florida State at 3:30 p.m. EST in the Paradise Jam.

The tournament, which takes place in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, will be hosted by the University of the Virgin Islands.

Hofstra and Florida State will face off in a game that will be televised nationally on the CBS Sports Network.

The Pride has gotten off to a 2-0 start as they have scored 90 or more points in each of their first two games of the season. It is Hofstra's first 2-0 start to a season for the first time since the 2004-05 campaign and in addition, the Pride has scored 90 or more points in back-to-back games for the first time since January 12 and 14, 2006.

In its last game on Monday, Hofstra used a strong second half to pull away from Molloy and defeat the Lions by the score of 96-64. Sophomore forward/center Rokas Gustys had his second straight double-double to open the season as he contributed 12 points and 16 rebounds after 13-point, 10-rebound effort against Canisius in the team's season opener last Friday.

Senior guard Juan'ya Green, the preseason Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year and a Bob Cousy Award Watch List nominee, posted 17 points and eight assists in the game as Hofstra shot nearly 64% in the second half en route to 59 points after the break.

Through two games, six players are averaging double figures in points with Green and junior guard Brian Bernardi leading the way at 16.5 points per outing. Green has 19 assists through two games, while Gustys is the team's leading rebounder with 26 combined in the two outings.

Hofstra is 0-3 all-time against Florida State. The first-ever meeting occurred during the 1967-68 season and the other two encounters occurred during the 1973-74 season and the 1974-75 campaign. All three previous meetings were at Florida State.

Florida State won its season opener against Nicholls State on Sunday, 109-62. The Seminoles also play Jacksonville on Tuesday evening.

Dwayne Bacon and Malik Beasley both scored over 20 points in the first game of the season as Bacon had 23 and Beasley followed with 21. Bacon also led the team with eight rebounds and Xavier Rathan-Mayes dished out 11 assists for Florida State.

Broadcast information for the remainder of Hofstra's games at the Paradise Jam will be available following the game against Florida State.  Hofstra will face either South Carolina or DePaul in its second game.
