MBB: Hofstra Moves To 2-0 With 96-64 Win Over Molloy

Hempstead, NY - Juan'ya Green and Ameen Tanksley each had 17 points to lead five Pride players in double figures, while Rokas Gustys added 12 points and a career-high tying 16 rebounds as Hofstra posted a 96-64 win over Molloy Monday night at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex.

Hofstra improved to 2-0 on the season for the first time since the 2004-05 campaign. Molloy dropped to 0-3 on the year.

Hofstra used an 11-0 run early in the second half to pull away from Molloy. Gustys started the run with a dunk on the break and scored six points in the spurt. Molloy missed nine shots during the Pride's run.

A three-pointer from Molloy's Brandon Williams ended the run and cut Molloy's deficit to 16, 50-34, with 14:07 remaining. But a 14-6 Hofstra run pushed the Pride's lead to 24, 64-40, on Denton Koon's three-pointer with 10:28 to play. The lead would grow to 31, 90-59, on a dunk from Justin Wright-Forman with 1:58 to play. A three-point play by Koon would give Hofstra its largest lead at 94-61, with 57 second remaining.

The teams played a closely-contested first half that saw the Pride lead by eight, 37-29, at the half. The eight point advantage was Hofstra's largest of the half as the Lions, who were playing their third game in as many days, stayed in the game. Green scored 11 points to pace the Pride in the opening stanza, while Tanksley added eight points. Molloy's Jaylen Morris matched Green's scoring output in the half, leading the Lions with 11 points.

Malik Nichols had 16 points and eight rebounds off the bench for the Pride, whole Koon finished with 11 points and six rebounds. The Pride shot 64 percent in the second half and finished the game at 52.3 percent from the field. Wright-Forman finished with nine points, the first of his Pride career.

Morris led Molloy with 15 points, while Charlie Marquardt and Kevin Bowles each chipped in with 11 points. Williams paced the Lions with eight rebounds.

Hofstra returns to action Friday afternoon versus Florida State in the Paradise Jam in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Eastern Time.
