WSOC: Mulholland's Overtime Goal Lifts Hofstra Past Towson

Towson, MD - Junior Jill Mulholland scored an unassisted goal 1:17 into the second overtime as Hofstra got past Towson, 2-1, in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup at the Tiger Soccer Complex Friday afternoon.

Hofstra improved to 10-4-0 overall and 4-1 in the CAA with the win. Towson dropped to 6-5-3 overall and 0-3-1 in league action.

The Pride opened the scoring at the 18:29 mark as freshman Jenn Buoncore scored her first career goal, taking a cross from sophomore Kristin Desmond and firing a shot into the top right corner past Towson keeper Taylor Sebolao.

But Towson would get the equalizer at 74:05 as Maddie Bove headed in a long pass from Emily Marshall. The goal was Bove's first of the season. The Pride would fire five more shots in regulation in an attempt to get the go-ahead goal, but Sebolao was up to the task and stopped all three shots on goal including a header from freshman Sabrina Barton with 14 seconds left.

After a scoreless first overtime, Mulholland wasted little time in putting an end to things in the second session as she spun around her defender and put a shot past Sebolao from four yards out. The goal was the fifth of the season for Mulholland.

Hofstra posted 30 shots on the day 14 of those on goal. The Pride also had 11 corner kicks in the game as they pressured the Tigers throughout. Towson managed nine shots, six on goal, and had four corner kicks.

Sebolao made 12 saves in goal. Hofstra junior keeper Friederike Mehring had five saves.

The Pride continues their road trip Sunday with a 1 p.m. matchup against James Madison in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
