VB: Klemm Leads Hofstra to a Sweep of Charleston with 39 Assists

Hempstead, NY - Hannah Klemm led all players with 39 assists, while Veronika Kostova posted a team-high 10 kills, pushing the Hofstra Volleyball team to a three-set sweep of the College of Charleston on Sunday afternoon at the David S. Mack Physical Education Center.

Kostova was the only member of the Pride with a double figure kill total, but Nanishka Perez, Leticia Valente and Michela Rucli were not far off with nine, nine and eight kills respectively. Valente and Rucli also added a game-high six total blocks, while Luisa Domingues led all players with 11 digs.

Set scores were 25-20, 25-20 and 25-19 all in favor of Hofstra, which improved to 16-9 overall and 7-3 in Colonial Athletic Association play, while the Cougars slip to 13-11 on the season and 5-5 in conference.

The first set was close throughout, but a Hofstra 3-0 spurt, capped by a Kostova kill, turned a 17-15 Pride lead into a 20-15 advantage for the hosts. Charleston climbed back into the set, getting as close as three points twice down the stretch, but an attack error ultimately gave set one to Hofstra, 25-20.

In the second set a Pride service error tied the game at 10, but Hofstra responded with a, 8-2 run, kick started by a Valente kill and capped by a Rucli effort, giving the hosts a 18-12 lead. However, Charleston answered back, outscoring Hofstra, 7-3, to pull to within two points, 21-19. A Brianna Montgomery kill put a stop to Charleston's run and Hofstra scored three of the next four points to close out the game, 25-20.

For the third set in a row Hofstra was unable to gain seperation early in the set, But, a Rucli effort, at 17-15, found the Cougars side of the court and sparked a game ending 8-4 run that was capped by another Valente kill, 25-19.

Melissa Morello led the College of Charleston offense with 15 kills, while both Morello and Britney Vallez registered nine digs for the Cougars.

Hofstra will return to action on Sunday, November 1 when they welcome CAA opponent Northeastern University to the David S. Mack Physical Education Center for a 1:00 pm contest.
