WBB: Hofstra’s Winning Streak Snapped In Loss To Delaware

Newark, Del. – Sophomore guard Kelly Loftus made all but two of Hofstra's total three-pointers for a team-high 14 points, but three Delaware players scored in double figures as the Pride fell to the Blue Hens, 64-53, on Thursday evening from the Bob Carpenter Center.

Hofstra lost for just the first time in conference play and saw a four-game winning streak snapped in falling to 11-5 and 4-1 in Colonial Athletic Association play. Courtni Green scored all but two of her 18 points in the second half while Erika Brown also scored 18 to help the Blue Hens improve to 7-9 and 2-3. Hannah Jardine finished with a double-double (10 points and 12 rebounds).

Hofstra is still tied for the 2011-12 team for the best CAA start in program history, as both squads won the first four league games before falling in the fifth.

Loftus finished in double figures for the ninth time this season and the third time in the last four games. The Alexandria, Virginia native made four three-pointers, though Hofstra still lost for the first time in January and for just the third time in nine road games.

Red-shirt sophomore forward Anjie White contributed eight points off the bench and freshman Ashunae Durant tallied nine rebounds and six points. Sophomore guard Krystal Luciano also scored eight points and made a pair of three-pointers.

Free-throw shooting gave Delaware the edge with the Blue Hens going 18-for-23 from the line and the Pride finishing 7-for-19.

The Pride entered the game tied for its longest winning streak of the season. Delaware has won eight consecutive games in the series.

White's layup 4:06 into the second half gave Hofstra a 34-32 lead. That would mark the Pride's last advantage. A 9-2 run extended Delaware's lead to 43-36 and Hofstra never moved closer than seven points in the final five minutes despite junior Asia Jackson's jump shot.

Jardine picked up two fouls almost two minutes in but still was able to rack up her third career double-double. Jardine grabbed seven of her rebounds and scored seven points in the second half.

Brown keyed a Delaware run by scoring nine consecutive points in one near four-minute stretch to help the Blue Hens take a 27-23 halftime lead. That stretch, which included a three-pointer and three straight jumpers, contributed to Brown's 14-point first half. The sophomore guard came in averaging 11.9 points.

Loftus, who is Hofstra's leading scorer, used her long-range shooting ability to keep Hofstra close entering the break. All nine of her first-half points came on three-pointers. Durant grabbed six rebounds, including four on the offensive glass.

The Pride trailed at halftime for just the fifth time this season.

Hofstra will return home for a Sunday home game against UNCW. Please note the new game time for the contest, which will feature a 1 p.m. start from the Mack Sports Complex.
