Veronika Kostova posted a career-high 14 kills and added three blocks as Hofstra swept NJIT Saturday afternoon at the Terrier Invitational. Set scores were 25-17, 25-16, 25-17.
With the win, their fourth straight, the Pride claimed the Invitational title with a 3-0 record and improved to 7-1 on the year. NJIT fell to 3-5 on the season.
Kostova established a new career-best for the second time this season, eclipsing her previous best of 12 set against Lafayette on August 29. The Hamburg, Germany, native was efficient in her hitting as she had no errors in 18 attempts for a .778 hitting percentage.
The first set featured nine tie scores before the Pride went on an 11-3 run to take a 22-15 lead en route to the 25-17 win. Senior outside hitter

Nuria Lopes da Silva each had a kill and a service ace in the run. Hofstra did not have an attack error in the set, converting 15 of 22 attempts (.682).
Hofstra led from start to finish in set two and closed out the stanza with six straight points for a 25-16 win. Kostova and Wills had four kills in the set. Lopes da Silva contributed three kills and senior middle blocker
Adama Aja added two.
In the final set Hofstra used a 7-0 spurt to take a 12-7 lead and was never threatened in the 25-17 win. Kostova had four kills and a block in the run. Freshman
Brianna Montgomery added three kills for the Pride.
Lopes da Silva finished the afternoon with eight kills and three blocks. Wills also had eight kills and added a match-best eight digs.
Fran Edmondson and Dana Vukotic each had seven kills to lead the Highlanders.
The Pride will next be in action Friday at 7 p.m. when they host Fordham in the Hofstra Invitational.
Notes: The Pride hit a season-best .400 in the match (44-12-80)…Kostova's .778 hitting percentage is a season-individual high for any Pride player and the 14 kills are tied with Wills for the fourth-highest total by Pride player this season (Wills has each of the other three-highest totals).
