VB: Hofstra Earns 10th Win Of Season With Sweep Of Bryant

Storrs, CT – Led by 11 kills and four blocks from senior middle blocker Nuria Lopes da Silva, the Hofstra Volleyball team picked up its eighth sweep of the season as they easily rolled past Bryant on Friday evening at the UConn Tournament.

Hofstra won by scores of 25-20, 25-9 and 25-22 and improved to 10-2 with the victory. Bryant fell to 3-12 with the loss. Hofstra has now won seven of its last eight matches.

Trailing 19-18 in the first set, Hofstra used a kill from senior middle blocker Adama Aja to kick-start a set-closing 7-1 run that would allow the Pride to take the early lead in the contest.

The momentum of the opening stanza clearly played a role in the second set as Hofstra jumped out to a commanding 14-2 lead as senior outside hitter Emily Burke tallied three kills during the set-opening run. Hofstra would never be seriously challenged the remainder of the set as they would open up a 2-0 lead in the match.

Bryant would take an early 12-9 lead in the third set before a kill from Burke started a 4-0 run that put the Pride in front 13-12. Hofstra would take the lead for good at 14-13 courtesy of another kill from Burke and after the Bulldogs closed the gap to two late, a kill from sophomore middle blocker Veronika Kostova ended the match.

Sophomore setter Hannah Klemm dished out 32 assists for Hofstra, while adding five digs and three blocks. Aja had a match-high seven blocks and added six kills for the Pride.

Vika Nesterov had 10 assists for the Bulldogs, while Sara DePouw and Elena Lohr each had six kills to lead Bryant.

Hofstra returns to action on Saturday when they face Columbia at 10 a.m. and the host Huskies at 7:30 p.m.
