Hempstead, NY – Sophomore setter
Hannah Klemm had a solid match with 36 assists to lead the Hofstra Volleyball team to its sixth straight win, a straight set victory over Siena on Saturday afternoon at the Hofstra Invitational in the David S. Mack Physical Education Center.
Hofstra improved to 9-1 with the victory, while Siena fell to 1-8. Set scores were 25-12, 25-14 and 25-15 in Hofstra's favor.
The win streak, now at six straight matches, is the longest since a seven-match win streak from October 26-November 8, 2012. In addition, it is the longest win streak without dropping a set since Hofstra won seven straight matches in straight sets from October 11-November 2, 2002.
Senior outside hitter
Kelsie Wills led Hofstra with 12 kills and added six digs. That total leaves her four digs shy of reaching 1,000 career digs and becoming only the sixth player in program history to have at least 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in their career.
Similar to their match against Fordham last night, Hofstra got off to an extremely hot start in the contest as they had no issues in rolling past Siena, 25-12, in the opening set. Led by Wills' five kills and three digs, Hofstra posted a .344 attack percentage in the first set, while holding the Saints to a negative .061 hitting percentage.
Hofstra continued to flourish in the second stanza, rolling past the visiting Saints by the score of 25-14. The offense took a step forward and hit at a .414 clip with 17 kills on 29 attempts to roll to the double-digit victory. The defense was nearly as stingy in the second set as they held Siena to a .000 attack percentage.
The defense proved to be the difference in the match today with Hofstra once again holding the Saints to a zero hitting percentage in the third set and a negative hitting percentage for the match (-.025).
Senior outside hitter
Emily Burke joined Wills in double figures with 10 kills, while senior middle blocker
Nuria Lopes da Silva notched eight kills, six digs and four blocks for the Pride.
Jacqueline Skeen led Siena with seven kills, while Briana Flagg picked up a match-high 13 digs for the Saints.
Hofstra will close play at the Hofstra Invitational this evening when it hosts Sacred Heart at 7:30 p.m.
