VB: Five Straight For Hofstra; Pride Sweeps Fordham

Hempstead, NY – Senior outside hitter Kelsie Wills posted 15 kills and 10 digs and moved closer to another career milestone in leading the Hofstra Volleyball team to a dominating three-set sweep of Fordham on Friday evening in play at the Hofstra Invitational.

Wills is now just 10 digs shy of reaching 1,000 for her career and also becoming only the sixth player in program history to have at least 1,000 kills and digs in their careers.

The win ups Hofstra's record to 8-1 this season and was the Pride's fifth straight victory. In addition, all five wins have come in straight sets, meaning the Pride has won 15 straight sets over those five matches. Fordham fell to 0-7 with the loss.

Senior middle blockers Adama Aja and Nuria Lopes da Silva both contributed nicely to the victory as Lopes da Silva had nine kills, five blocks and four service aces and Aja also added nine kills and had a spectacular .571 hitting percentage.

Hofstra would have its most complete performance of the season in the opening set as the Pride left no doubt in defeating the Rams, 25-8, to open the match. It was a dominating effort on both sides of the ball as Hofstra hit at a stellar .483 clip, while holding Fordham to a .000 attack percentage. The eight points were the fewest a Hofstra opponent has scored in a set this season.

Fordham jumped out to an early lead in the second stanza, forcing Hofstra to play catchup for a portion of the set. The Pride would rally midway through the set and eventually earn the seven-point victory. The offense continued to work well as Hofstra nearly reached a .400 hitting percentage in the second set, finishing with 17 kills on 31 attempts and a .387 attack percentage.

Hofstra continued its offensive onslaught in the third and final set as the Pride never really allowed the Rams to present much of a threat. Hofstra would pull away for the convincing nine-point win as they once again hit over .400 in a set and ended up hitting .433 for the entire match. It marked a season-high in hitting percentage for the Pride and the second straight match they have reached that plateau.

Sophomore setter Hannah Klemm dished out 41 assists for Hofstra, while sophomore libero Sophia Black tied Wills for match-high honors with 10 digs in the contest.

Brennan Delsing led Fordham with five kills, while Abigail Konovodoff had 15 assists, three digs, three blocks and three kills.

Hofstra returns to action on Saturday with a pair of matches. The Pride will face Siena at 1:30 p.m. and then close play at the Hofstra Invitational with a 7:30 p.m. match against Sacred Heart.
