MSOC: Hofstra Falls To Northwestern

Evanston, Ill. – Junior goalkeeper Patric Pray made six saves, but Northwestern's goal in the first minute of the second half was the first of three goals in the period as the Pride fell to the Wildcats, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon in the finale of the Sheraton Chicago-Northbrook Lakeside Classic.

Joey Calistri's goal 20 seconds into the second half broke a scoreless deadlock as Northwestern improved to 2-0. Hofstra ended the two-game tournament 0-1-1 after playing Northern Illinois to a scoreless Opening Day draw on Friday.

Calistri scored two goals and Henry Herrill notched the other scoring strike for Northwestern. The Pride is now 0-2 in the all-time series against the Wildcats.

Herrill added an insurance marker in the 77th minute off a scoring play set up by Cole Missimo and Mike Roberge, marking Herrill's first of the season. Calistri then capped the scoring with his third goal of the season, again teaming up with Nikko Boxall for a score in the 81st minute. Boxall assisted on the opening tally as well.

Sophomore midfielder Joseph Holland's equalizer attempt in the 52nd minute was stopped by goalkeeper Tyler Miller. Holland's shot was one of two on-target attempts for Hofstra as Miller, who made the MAC Hermann Trophy watch list in the preseason, finished with two saves.

Senior forward Maid Memic nearly broke Miller's shutout bid in the 88th minute when his hit shot hit the crossbar.

Defensively, senior Daniel Grundei played every minute for a second consecutive game. Sophomore Harri Hawkins was the only other Pride field player to log all 90 minutes. Sophomore Mario Ruiz had Hofstra's only other shot-on-goal.

Grundei and Hawkins were Hofstra's selection to the all-tournament team.

Hofstra will next be in action on Thursday with a short road trip to face St. John's at 8 p.m. The Pride's home opener is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 14 versus Dartmouth at 1 p.m.
