Hempstead, NY – There is a newfound excitement surrounding the Hofstra Volleyball team this season as the Pride enters its first season under the leadership of first year Head Coach Emily Mansur.

Mansur has a talented and deep roster to assist her in 2014 as the squad features 10 returnees and five newcomers. Several of the returnees, led by senior outside hitter Kelsie Wills, are coming off solid 2013 seasons and ready to help Hofstra battle for a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) crown this year.

Before the Pride sets its sights on conference play, though, Hofstra will attempt to get off to a solid start in non-conference play as they open the season on Friday at 11:30 a.m. with a home match against St. Francis Brooklyn. All matches during the tournament will take place at the David S. Mack Physical Education Center.

Hofstra is 21-11 all-time in season openers. 

The match against the Terriers is part of the two-day, nine-match, five team Hofstra Asics Invitational on August 29 and 30. The Pride and the Terriers kick off the festivities with Hofstra and Santa Clara closing tournament play on Saturday night with a 7:30 p.m. match. Joining Hofstra, St. Francis Brooklyn and Santa Clara in the tournament will be Lafayette and Quinnipiac. Admission to all Hofstra Volleyball matches is free of charge.

Following the Hofstra Asics Invitational the Pride will entertain Long Island rival Stony Brook on Wednesday, September 3 before heading to the St. Francis Brooklyn Terrier Invitational on September 5 and 6.
