Oceanside, NY - Sarah Bowen won Hofstra's only point in a 6-1 loss to Delaware Saturday night at PointSet Indoor in the Colonial Athletic Association opener for both schools.
Hofstra falls to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the CAA. Delaware is 3-3, 1-0 in league action.
Bowen and Carmen Pestano defeated Dorothy Safron and Carmen Lai, 8-6, at first doubles but the Blue Hens won the next two flights to take the point. The Pride's Bianca Derrick and Louise Lopez lost a tightly-contested battle at second doubles, 9-8 (5), to Nataliya Naumova and Olivia Heim.
In singles, Bowen won in three sets over Danea Jonijic', 6-0, 4-6, 7-5. Lopez won the first set of her second singles match over Safron, 6-4, but dropped the next two sets, 1-6, 0-6. The Blue Hens took the other four flights in straight sets.
The Pride return to action March 17 at the College of Charleston.
