Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra Women's Tennis team picked up their first win of the spirng season, snapping a six-match losing streak, with a 5-1 win over visiting Fairfield Friday morning.
Hofstra improved to 3-6 on the season, while Fairlfield slipped to 4-6.
Hofstra won five of the six singles matches with doubles play halted due to rain.
The match began with singles play and Louise Lopez gave Hofstra the eary lead with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Sharissa Ryan at second singles. Carmen Pestano picked up a 6-2, 6-1 victory at third singles over Allison Radde before the Stags got on the board with a win at first singles as Monica Yajima defeated Sarah Bowen, 6-3, 6-4.
The Pride dropped the first set in each of the singles matches in flights four through six before stormining back to win the next two sets in each. Giulia Leone defeate Carolina Koladzyn, 2-6, 6-0, 10-6 at fourth singles while Bianca Derrick picked up a 2-6, 6-0, 11-9 win at fifth singles. Bianca Posa closed the match with a 2-6, 6-3, 10-7 win at the sixth flight.
Hofstra will be back in action Saturday morning at 9 a.m. when it hosts Wagner. This is a change from the originally scheduled time of 12 p.m.
