WTEN: Pride Fall In Spring Opener

Schenectady, NY - Sarah Bowen and Carmen Pestano won their first doubles match and Bianca Derrick won by default at sixth singles, but Albany won five singles matches and took the doubles point in a 6-1 victory Saturday afternoon.

Hofstra fell to 2-1 on the seaon with the loss in its spring season opener. Albany improves to 3-2 with the win.

Bowen and Pestano defeated Rocio Lopez Alberca and Kirsten Scott, 6-3, at first doubles for the Pride lone on-court win. The Great Danes also defaulted at sixth singles.

Louise Lopez and Pestano both turned in competitive singles matches before dropping decisions. Lopez went to tiebreakers in both sets against Cheryl Kukkonen in a 6-7 (2-7), 6-7 (5-7) loss at second singles. Pestano went three sets with Scott at third singles, losing 4-6, 6-0, 9-11.

Hofstra is back in action next Saturday at Bryant. Match time is 6:30 p.m.
