MSOC: Hofstra Posts Road Win At JMU

Harrisonburg, Va. –  Hofstra freshman Danny Elliott scored off a corner and senior forward Maid Memic netted a goal for a fifth straight game to lift the Pride to a 2-1 Colonial Athletic Association road victory on Saturday night at University Park.

The Pride won for the sixth time in seven games to improve to 8-4-2 and 3-1 in CAA play. James Madison fell to 5-6-3 and 1-2-1 in league play.

James Madison's Eric Schmidt scored in the 80th minute to end Hofstra's shutout bid. Schmidt's first goal of the season cut Hofstra's lead in half. The Pride clamped down after that, with Hofstra blocking shots by Josh Grant and Jonathan Barden and negating a scoring chance off an 88th minute corner kick.

Elliott, a first-year forward, scored off sophomore Rory Murphy's corner kick in the 28th minute to put Hofstra ahead. Elliott's goal was his second in three games. All three of his scoring strikes have come in conference games after he netted his first collegiate goal at Elon and added another in a 3-0 win versus William & Mary.

Memic added a key insurance goal in the 33rd minute when he converted a penalty kick attempt. The team's tri-captain is 2-for-2 on penalty kicks this season after also scoring against Wake Forest. Memic has posted scoring strikes in every game since Oct. 4, with goals against Elon, the Demon Deacons, William & Mary, Delaware and the Dukes. With his 27th career goal, Memic is now two behind Alan Bodenstein's 29 for the fifth-most in program history. Bodenstein played from 1982-85.

Junior goalkeeper Patric Pray made two saves as Hofstra held a 9-3 advantage in shots-on-goal. Memic tallied a game-high four shots while Elliott and sophomore Joseph Holland netted three shots each. Murphy, Jon Fraser, Nino Alfonso, Harri Hawkins, Marius Flateboe and Holland all played 90 minutes.

Hofstra will return home on Wednesday versus Drexel at 7 p.m.
