Mt. Pleasant, S.C. – Both senior forward Amber Stobbs and junior forward Leah Galton added a goal and an assist for three-point showings to lift Hofstra to a 5-0 victory over the College of Charleston in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup on Friday evening at Patriots Point.
Senior forward Sam Scolarici notched her CAA-leading 14th goal and cracked the 100-point plateau. She extended her program-record point total to 101 as Hofstra improved to 9-6 overall and 4-2 in league play. Freshman Emily Hulbert scored for the second straight game and junior Jeannine Molleda added a goal as CofC fell to 5-10-1 and 1-5-1.
Sophomore goalkeeper Friederike Mehring posted her third straight shutout in CAA play. The netminder made three saves for her fourth career individual clean sheet. After holding Towson without a shot on goal and Northeastern to just one on-target shot, the Pride limited the Cougars to just three total shots (including two in the second half).
The Pride scored two goals in the opening seven minutes with Stobbs and Galton scoring just 1:03 apart. Galton set up Stobbs at the 5:16 mark and the London, England native registered her third goal of the season.
Galton's assist was the 19th of her career, which tied her with Laura Greene (2008-11) for the fifth-most in program history. Galton then registered her 27th career goal just 63 seconds later. Her eighth goal of the season moved her into a tie with Jerilyn Marinan (1997-00) for fifth-most in Hofstra history. She trails Salma Tarik (2008-10) for the fourth spot.
Hofstra, which ended the game with a 19-7 edge in shots and a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks, added an insurance goal with Scolarici scoring off a turnover 6:36 into the second half. Scolarici entered the game sitting on 99 career points and reached triple digits thanks to her 47th career goal. The Aldie, Virginia native charged in from the left flank and beat CofC goalkeeper Lauren Killian for the 3-0 edge.
Molleda linked with Stobbs to score her second goal of the season in the 56th minute. Hulbert, who earned the CAA's Co-Rookie of the Week award after scoring the deciding goal over then-first place Northeastern in the team's last game, scored her a second straight game in the 64th minute. Senior Lulu Echeverry passed it to Hulbert at the top-right corner of the box and Hulbert finished to the far post for the five-goal lead.
Hofstra will conclude the two-game road trip on Sunday with a noon kickoff at UNCW.
